GOT CHANGE?

“My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:”—Proverbs 24:21

Ralph Wardlaw (1779-1853) wrote a tremendous commentary on the Book of Proverbs. His comments below on the verse above sound (apart from some antiquated language) as though they were written yesterday in reference to the character and carryings-on on of far left leaders in the Democratic Party, and far left thugs-on-the-ground like ANTIFA. The same applies to the hapless dunderheads (Lenin's "Useful idiots") in the mainstream media and among the Hollywood elite.

“The men against whom we are here warned, are men of a discontented, unsettled, factious, turbulent, revolutionary spirit; men who can be satisfied with nothing as it is; who with a

mighty conceit of their own wisdom, talk and act as if they thought the world would never

be right, but under their dominion, and boast of what a world it would be, could they but get

all their own way. They are such seditious demagogues as keep a country, for any purpose

or for none, in a perpetual ferment; whom nothing pleases; who are thankless for the liberty

they have, however far surpassing it is to that enjoyed in other nations, because this or that

is not entirely to their mind; who look to their real or imaginary grievances, much more than to

their many and valuable privileges; who are ever finding dead flies in the precious ointment,

that turn all to unsaviouriness,--so that even the sweets of the greatest amount of liberty enjoyed

by any nation under heaven, would to them be turned to bitterness by whatever little circum-

stances, if the constitution or administration, not exactly to their mind, should from time to

time discover itself.”

The kind of thoughtless, ignorant and impertinent change mongers Wardlaw describes here can also be found in contemporary churches where the goal seems to be to change everything from the words of the Bible itself, to the way in which people “worship”; Jesus said, "God is a Spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24). "Truth" here refers not to what might be" truth" for you or for me or for some "worship or praise leader." "Truth" here refers to God's truth; absolute truth that can be found, by those who want to know it, in the Bible — Truth as to how God wants to be worshipped. The attitude in some places seems to be that the more irreverent, even shockingly irreverent, the approach to God and the things of God are, the more “spiritual” they are. This happens because of those who have “changed the truth of God into a lie” (Rom. 1:25).

These “My way or the highway” types can also be found in conservative churches; among the pews and in pulpits. These are those who couldn’t care less about the biblical principles of love or the importance of doing things “decently and in order” (1 Cor. 14:40). The Bible admonishes believers in a church to “Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Eph. 4:1-3). But none of this holds any relevance with them. All that matters to these discontent, disruptive meddling change merchants is that their preferences be followed.

Change can be good and necessary. But we should resist with all of our might, the political and social change that is promoted by the far left. And we need to resist with all our might the Diotrephes (3 John 9) and Jezebel (Rev. 2:20) types who wrangle for unscriptural and un-Christlike change in our churches.
