ARE YOU, AS A NON-CHRISTIAN, THE SMARTEST PERSON IN THE ROOM?

I recently posted an article in which I recognized the fact that some Christians, including some preachers, have minds like concrete. That is, minds that are all mixed up regarding some subjects and permanently set. This, of course, was not intended as a compliment.

It’s also true that a great many non-Christians have minds like concrete; minds that are all mixed up and permanently set in terms of what they’ve decided to think about Jesus Christ and their own need of the personal salvation that is available to them because of His substitutionary, atoning death and His resurrection from the dead. Many have decided not to allow themselves to seriously consider anything that might seriously threaten what they have already decided to believe or not to believe relative to this subject. And they are proud of this position — a position that says, “My mind is already made up; don’t confuse me with facts.”

Multiplied millions upon millions of people throughout history have professed faith in Christ, testified to the reality of their own salvation experience, and have happily and devotedly lived and died in their faith. Among these millions, “Redeemed out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Rev. 5:9), there have been, and are, a vast multitude of people, renowned universally for their intellectual brilliance and their world-changing contributions in the fields of the arts and sciences. Here’s a question for those who have their minds all mixed up, made up, and permanently set against Jesus Christ and what the Bible says about every person’s need of salvation through faith in Him: If you were in one big room with all the believers in Christ referred to above, would you be the smartest person in the room? Here’s another question: If you should assume and carry on through life as if you were the smartest person in that room, what if – just what if – it turns out for you, when your life on earth is ended, that you really weren’t the smartest person in the room where Jesus Christ and salvation were concerned? The better part of wisdom would probably lead people to open their minds a little further, look a little closer and inquire a little deeper into a matter as important as this.
