WHAT TO DO NOW

When Edward Everett Hale (1822-1909), Chaplain of the U. S. Senate was asked: “Do you pray for the senators, Dr. Hale?” he answered, “No, I look at the senators and I pray for the country.” His prayers wouldn’t mattered much since, being a Unitarian, he rejected the deity of Christ; but the his answer is relevant to our times.

When we look at the absolute moral rottenness of character and the anti-Christ stance of, by far the most part of those holding the power of government today, it is nothing less than shameful and terrifying. This is an open manifestation of just how diabolical the roots of our present situation are and how spiritually far gone we are as a country.

Nothing less than a mighty intervention form God can change our situation from becoming anything but worse and worse. And this is only possible if believers will do everything they can to qualify to receive the promises God makes in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “ If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” For most this means radical readjustment of attitude and lifestyle, which few appear willing to make.

But, whatever others do or don’t do, here’s what we need to do to live as Christian ought to live during these hard times and the harder times that are coming. Read and drill down deep in study in the study of God’s laws that are His standards for how He wants His people to live on earth. These are found in the Ten Commandments and in the Sermon on the Mount. And do this with a humble spirit that is looking to conform not in the least measure possible, but with a desire to conform as closely as possible.

When in doubt about any change in lifestyle, don’t make your decision based upon what God might let you get by with; make your decision based upon what it appears would be most preferable to God. God has a gold standard for our living, so go for the gold. Don’t settle for substitute, second best or what constitutes the easy path. Start getting the things out of your life that need to be gotten out of them and getting the things into your life that need to be gotten into them. And start doing this, in some way, regarding something, today.
