THE DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA AND CHRISTIANS AND WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT

We live in a dumbed-down age, and the dumbing-down is continuing apace. Ours is a day when shallowness, superficiality, silliness and stupidity are all the rage. Ours is a day when, in the minds of millions, gender, marriage, God, right and wrong is nothing more or less than what individuals personally decide it is from one day to the next. Ours is a day of sin-generated insanity when people have either lost their moral compass or are busy throwing it away; when people are preoccupied to the point of stupor with sex, smart phones, self-worship and the enslavement of themselves to socialism.

And, much of this dumbed-down and dumbing down spirit has entered into thousands of once good, biblical churches all across our country. Multitudes of professed Christians today can’t tell the difference between a church and a circus or a preacher from a third rate performer. They can’t tell the difference between a biblical sermon and a busy signal on their smart phone; and they’re no more interested in the one than they are in the other. Our day parallels the spiritually dumbed-down backslidden days of Jeremiah when God said, “and my people love to have it so” (Jer. 5:30, 31).

The only tried and proven formula for any significant change in our current situation is for God’s people to really hear the Word of God once again, change their ways and cry out to Him for His help to do it. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn form their wicked way: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins and heal their land” (2 Chon. 7:14). And, make no mistake about it: this change has to begin with the pulpits.

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

—John 8:32
