THE CONTRIBUTION OF SALT-FREE "CHRISTIANITY" TO THE DEMISE OF AMERICA

The Bible says in John 8:32, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Romans 12:21 says, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” These two verses teach us that people are made free where truth is proclaimed, received and obeyed by people; that this freedom enables them to do good, and that it is through their goodness, that people are enabled to overcome evil.

Our Founding Fathers understood that America would remain free only to the extent that (1) America remained under the influence of God’s truth, and (2) that Americans were practitioners of goodness. This is why the first President and Father of our country, George Washington said, ““The foundation of our national policy will be laid in the pure and immutable principles of private morality … the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” It’s why John Adams wrote, ““Statesmen my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for Liberty, but it is Religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principles upon which Freedom can securely stand.”

Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859) an astute observer and great admirer of this country probably had a deeper and keener understanding of this nation than most Americans. He understood what the Founders did about America. In his book Democracy in America he wrote profoundly and prophetically: “America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

America has almost entirely ceased to be good. Consequently, the power of evil has prevailed and is prevailing all across our country. This is seen in the general sinfulness of the American public that grows more outrageous every day; sinfulness that has been, and continues to be exasperated, by worldly churches demonstrating a sickeningly toxic and obnoxious brand of secular “Christianity” that has embraced just the opposite of Jesus’ command to His disciples that they be “the salt of the earth.”

Jesus gave a perpetual commission and warning to His followers when He said,Ye are the salt of earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men” (Matt. 5:13). Christianity is not salty today. It is, for the most part secular and sensual. It doesn't have enough spiritual saltiness about it to make anyone thirsty for what professed believers claim to have in Christ. It is self-centered, flesh-pleasing, religious pretension packaged up as “Christianity.” The no-salt, salt-substitute, salt-lite Christianity found in formal churches and among so-called fundamental churches today is anything but savory to the lost. It is sickening to them. It is held in contempt by them, and “cast out, and trodden under the foot of men.”

Churches, perhaps the majority of churches today, make a smorgasbord of truth; preaching and following what is convenient, comfortable and expedient for them, and rejecting the rest. Professed Christians hold the truth very loosely, but have the world in a lover’s embrace. Unless this changes, Christians will have no legitimate claim to God’s promised prescription for revival and the healing of our land (2 Chron. 7:14).

Modernistic, secular, worldly, corrupted, Corinthianized, carnal, saltless Christianity has exasperated sin to the point that it now proliferates our society and has put our free Republic on the verge of collapse. Savorless, truth-suppressing and truth-rejecting Christianity continues to exasperate the sin throughout America that is bringing us as a people into bondage as a nation under atheistic communism.
