AMERICA'S SOFT-LIGHT AND SALT-LITE CHRISTIANITY
I recently received a letter expressing the frustration shared by many Christian people today, especially pastors. My correspondent asked, “Do people want the truth? People are not listening … ” This question expresses a legitimate concern.
Carnality and apostasy, like a rapidly metastasizing cancer is taking over America’s churches; mainstream liberal churches, and growing numbers of evangelical and fundamental churches too. God gave a heads-up regarding this in the Bible: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables” (2 Tim. 4:3, 4).
Generally speaking,
Christians today will only endure sound doctrine that doesn't threaten or interfere with any worldliness they enjoy in their lifestyle. They don't want to listen to it and won't listen to it if they can avoid doing so. Compounding this problem is the reality that a great many pastors share this attitude towards "doctrine which is according to holiness” and are the "biggest ducks in the puddle" where accommodating and aping the world is concerned.
The Lord has commanded Christians to be really briny salt and really bright lights in this world (Matt. 5:13-16). American Christians know this, but have opted to be "soft light" at best to a world in darkness and "salt-lite" and savorless in a spiritually rotten and perishing world. And people wonder (or pretend to wonder) why America is in the state it is in and why revival tarries.
