CHRISTMAS — CAN I JUST SAY THIS ABOUT THAT?

There are no less than 265 names ascribed to our Lord in the Bible. Five of the most descriptive are in Isaiah 9:6 where 700 years before He came into the world via a virgin’s womb it was prophesied first, that “His name shall be called Wonderful . . .” I just want to say this about that:

Jesus is wonderful. He was Wonderful during His preexistence in eternity because of His creation of everything that is (John 1:1-3), and because of His control He had over every thing that is (Heb. 1:3; Mark 4:4). He was also Wonderful while present here on earth —throughout the course of His life in terms of His virtue (Heb. 4:15; 7:26), and at the close of His life in terms of His victory (Matt. 28:1-6; 1 Cor. 15:55). He’s still Wonderful, and He’ll be Wonderful when He returns to earth again in glory.

Most important to remember is the fact that Jesus is a Wonderful Savior. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Jesus as Savior is God’s gift from heaven for all who will receive Him (John 1:12; Rom. 6:23).

Napoleon Bonaparte, as far as anyone knows, never received Jesus Christ as His Savior – never received God’s precious Gift, but he knew the truth about Jesus. One time, at the height of his power he said, “I must be present to be powerful: but there is a Man who calmly looks over the centuries and claims the human heart, and, what is more, He gets it.” Napoleon was wrong about a lot of things, but he was never more right than when he said this.

One night, many years ago, Jesus got my heart. I gave my repentant and trusting heart to Him (Acts 20:21), and He has been a Wonderful Savior and Friend to me ever since. Has Jesus ever gotten your heart? He has if you’ve ever given it to Him repentantly and with faith (Rom. 10:9-13). He has a rightful claim to your heart, in that He died so that you might live eternally (2 Cor. 5:15). God has a Gift for you this Christmas. Don’t go into the New Year without it. (Please share).
