HALLOWEEN NATION

Today, especially tonight, all across American children will be encouraged and joined by adults in celebrating and parading their enjoyment of and fascination with, just about everything hated and abominated by the God of all creation. Vampires (Deut. 12:23), ghosts witches, ghouls and goblins (Lev. 19:31), the most wicked characters from film and stage, death and the devil himself will have the spotlight put on them all night long. And people will be “treated” from house to house for doing it. Parties will be had all over the place amid decorations galore to celebrate Halloween. (Halloween is second now only to Christmas in terms of how much money is spent annually in celebration of a holiday).

But then, America has, in many ways, become Halloween – 24/7, 365 days a year, babies are killed here by the thousands every month and this is celebrated with fireworks and the lighting up of whole cities. Perversion is presented and promoted to children by costumed drag queens in our public schools and paraded in public parks by perverts in costume or minus any clothing at all. The most popular television shows are those in the genre of “The Walking Dead,” and movies featuring the most horrific violence are biggest box office hits. Witches and demons (or people who imitate them in every way they can) are running our country, etc., etc., etc. AMERICA HAS BECOME HALLOWEEN.

The good news is, that, a lot of people get this and aren’t going along with it. These are those who are keeping America, at least in part, the “Land of the Free,” and from becoming altogether the land of the spree — keeping America, at least in part, the “Home of the Brave,” not altogether the land of the rave and the crazed. These are those for whom the focus this Sunday is not on Halloween night, but on this being THE LORD’S DAY. These are those who can, if they will, claim the promise of 2 Chron. 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and heal their land.”
