HOW DO YOU TALK TO PEOPLE?
Today we need to get as good as we can get at helping people understand what they need to understand. Why? Because this is a day unprecedented for missing information, misinformation and confusion; a day when people understand so little about so much that needs to be understood, such as Christianity and what things like civility and character and manhood and womanhood are all about; what constitutes a good marriage and good parenting; why individual liberty is so precious and how to recognize tyranny. And the list goes on and on.
It’s easy to shout back at, talk over, ridicule and get angry with people who don’t see things the way we do. People with the IQ of a young ape can do this. It’s harder but smarter and infinitely more helpful to listen to people and behave in a way that is conducive to your helping them understand what they need to understand. The goal in communication whether it involves a spouse, a child, a friend or anyone else is to push it forward, not to kick it off the field or have it picked up and taken home. Today, “truth is fallen in the street” and “people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Isa. 59:14; Hos. 4:6). We all need to be ready and able to help people understand what desperately needs to be understood.
