PRIORITIES
C. S. Lewis wrote: “A man may have to die for his country: but no man must, in any exclusive sense, live for his country. He who surrenders himself without reservation to the temporal claims of a nation, or a party, or a class is rendering to Caesar that which, of all things, most emphatically belongs to God Himself.”
Whatever you think of Mr. Lewis, he was right about this. The most patriotic Christian in American who gives a higher priority to the preservation of our Republic than he does to God’s commandments or His personal claims on his or her life is not only very much misguided, but cancels out any prospects of being a channel through which divine help (the only effectual help) can come to America which doesn’t deserve, but now so desperately needs God’s help.
