WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Someone said that the greatest discovery he every made was that people can “alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.” This is true. Problem is, people can alter their attitudes, and consequently their lives, for the worse and not for the better.

The pattern followed for attitude alteration makes all the difference. People can alter their attitude a little bit every day until they are as selfish as the greediest materialist on Wall Street, the most self-absorbed narcissist in Hollywood or the dirtiest slave to perversion ever produced by the pornography industry. It’s happened, it’s happening and it will happen to millions.

But the Christian has a God approved and time proven pattern for the daily alteration of his mind: “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 2:5). We can alter our attitudes to conform to Jesus until our lives look like they’re supposed to look, sound like they’re supposed to sound and do what they’re supposed to do—until they fit right into God’s plan for them. As our minds become more and more like Christ’s we’ll become more and more secure in who we are (v. 6), more submissive (v. 7) and more self-sacrificing (v. 8). Our lives will become more successful and sweet than we could ever have imagined.

Are things that need to be trimmed out of your thinking and behavior being trimmed out? Are things that need to be sewn in being sewn in? See Eph. 4:22-24. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” How true. And how true for you! A man I knew used to advise people to “Get a check up from the neck up.” Do you need to do this? Got any alterations to make? Read Phil 2:5-8, and hop to it!
